Cheap Forms of Cheating at the Poker Table

Poker undoubtedly can be a very profitable pastime, as evidenced by individuals that make a living out of playing the popular game. This is due to the growing popularity of the game as more and more are getting into playing poker which makes poker matches crowded and more lucrative.

Nonetheless, players who want to make the card game a financially rewarding hobby must still become above-average players in order to make the most out of every poker session, money-wise. Unfortunately, not every player has the adequate skills to make the hobby of playing the popular card game a worthwhile one for one's pockets. This has resulted in some players to resort to cheating to gain some advantage at the poker table and to skew the odds of winning the pot in their favor.

Cheating at the poker table comes in many forms depending on the type of poker game and the skill of the player who is doing the cheating.

Poker cheats commonly come in the form of cheap tactics such as splashing/shorting the pot and rubbernecking. Splashing the pot involves dumping one's chips into the pot so as to confuse the amount of one's bet and the overall amount of the pot. Requiring more effrontery is shorting the pot which involves pocketing some chips straight from the pot when no one is looking.

In the breed of splashing and shorting the pot is another cheap form of cheating that is termed as check-chopping. Check-chopping is a more sophisticated form of shorting the pot. It is done in games where there is no official dealer which will result in one of the actual players to be the tender of pot, the one that will arrange the chips and deliver them to the victorious player. Check-chopping can be done by such tenders of the pot as they can pocket some of the chips that they arrange by putting adhesives in the hands to slip some chips secretively.

Rubbernecking is one form of cheating that most players are likely to be guilty of at one point of their poker career or another. At the least, it is stealing a peek into the hands of other players so as to have some advantage over them. Aside from contaminating the pot and rubbernecking, other cheap forms of cheating also include marking cards so as one will know what the cards of other players are in the event that the marked cards come in the hands of one's opponents without having to read to hands or to do a rubberneck.

These cheap forms of cheating are tactics by hapless poker player that aims to profit from the game without the necessary hard work and skill. Knowing such forms of cheating is important so as to spot them if one's opponent tries to perform them. Such tactics are despicable and it will be for the betterment of the game if everyone knows what are they so as to spot and stop them from being triumphant from swindling other players.
